5 New Favorite iPhone Apps

Here are the iPhone apps I’ve been playing with recently. Some have been out awhile; some are relatively new.

Find My iPhone, free
You no longer need a paid MobileMe account to set up Find My iPhone for your phone (and your iPad too). Not only does it tell you where your iPhone is located (although  not down to the yard–it won’t be able to specifically find your phone between the sofa cushions) but it also allows you to remotely wipe the info on the phone, in case you’ve got sensitive info that you don’t want to fall into the wrong hands.

Postagram, app itself is free; costs $0.99 to send each postcard
Create a custom postcard in this app from any photo on your iPhone, and then Postagram will print and mail it out (via actual snail mail). Also allows you to create a custom message on the back. And it stores your friends’ and family’s postal mail addresses.

CraftGawker, free
This app gives you amazing crafts images to inspire yourself. You can even pick the categories you’re interested in–from accessories to candles to jewelry to paper goods to woodworking.

Decibel Meter Pro, $0.99
I am very sensitive to loud noises, so I’m excited to have this app, which records the average and peak decibel levels when you point the iPhone top end (where the mic is) towards the sound.

Great Movies, $0.99
Roger Ebert’s app includes his reviews of hundreds of movies, and you can add any movie right from here to your Netflix list. Just reading Ebert’s commentary on your favorite movies is a great distraction on the subway.

Thanks for this post. I think, we can stop focusing on the technology and just focus on using what we already have, and making interesting and engaging performances instead of spending hours upon hours of learning how to use and configure new gadgets. This is a very good thing.
