Where to Buy Tech Gifts in NYC

This is our third annual newsletter on great places to buy techie gifts in New York City. A few have been on previous lists already--not enough new tech joints open up each year, unfortunately!

AC Gears

This one is a perennial favorite, especially for great-quality headphones and weird watches. 69 East 8th Street.

Adorama

Our office is around the corner from this store, and we have bought everything from camera equipment to software to laptop bags here. And you can even upload your photos to their website, and then pick up prints at the store. 42 West 18th Street. Closed Sat.

Datavision

Mostly computers and accessories, although they have lots of iPhone cases too--more unusual stuff than you'd find at Best Buy. 445 Fifth Ave at 39th Street.

J and R

Prepare to be overwhelmed at this gigantic emporium of all things electronic. Park Row.

Wired Pop-up Store

Wired Magazine tries to find more innovative or never-before-seen gadgets, stuff that's a little more on the cutting edge. How about the Sound Egg for $2525--sit in a little pod that has speakers inside it. 42nd Street and Broadway. Only open Wed-Sun.

MoMA Store

Yes, most of their items are housewares, but they do have nifty alarm clocks and mini speakers and a few other gadgety-type items. 11 West 53rd Street, 44 West 53rd Street, and 81 Spring Street.

Radio Shack

If you're desperate, you could do worse than sticking your head in Radio Shack. They tend to have lots of stocking-stuffer-sized and -priced gifts. Locations around the city.
