Mac Product Recommendations
We recommend these software and hardware products to our Mac clients.
1Password
1Password stores all your login passwords in encrypted format right on your computer. With one click of a button in your web browser, it logs you in to any website. It also creates strong passwords. Just remember your one master password, and this software handles the rest.
Apple airline power adapter
Now that more and more planes are equipped with wifi, the Apple airline power adapter comes in handy. Whether you're watching a movie on your MacBook Pro or writing emails on your MacBook Air while in flight, make sure your laptop doesn't die mid-flight. $49.
CableBox
The CableBox from BlueLounge is a simple white or black plastic box that sits under your desk and hides all your cables and power strips from view. Instantly tidies up your desk area. We use these to keep things looking neat in the office. Check out their "before" and "after" photos on the website.
Computer Tool Kit
This 26-piece tool kit from ThinkGeek contains everything necessary to open up your Mac (or PC). It's got multiple screwdrivers (including Phillips, TORX, and hex), pliers, cutters, and a tweezer. Only 1.5 pounds. $25.
Data Memory Systems
Our preferred seller for RAM for the Mac is Data Memory Systems. They carry RAM for every Mac model, plus they have an online memory finder based on which Mac you have (including pictures). The prices are competitive, their phone support is extremely helpful, and most of their RAM has a lifetime guarantee.
DiskWarrior
DiskWarrior is our #1 preferred utility to find and fix directory damage. We use this whenever there are worries of file damage or loss.
Dropbox
Dropbox can keep files and folders synchronized between multiple computers—your home and your work computer, for example. It's also a good way for a small office to share documents, and eliminate the need for a basic fileserver. You can even invite others to view and edit specific files; give your freelancer access to a few documents while keeping the others private.
GoToMeeting
GoToMeeting allows you to share your computer screen over the web with up to 15 people. You can give a presentation or collaborate with others. $49/month; there's a free 30-day trial.
iHome travel speakers
These iHome mini speakers are only about 2" wide, but they've got decent sound quality given their tiny size, so they're great for travel. The speakers even collapse and use magnets to stick together when you're ready to pack them up. $50.
Join.me
Join.me gives you free screen sharing and allows up to 250 people to see your screen at one time. Super easy to use, even for a computer novice--just click Share or Join on the home page.
