NYC Mac Support: IvanExpert versus the Apple Store Genius Bar
When does it make sense to go to the Genius Bar at one of the four NYC Apple Stores instead of calling us for Mac support? Here are some guidelines.
Apple users: When to call IvanExpert
- If you want someone to come to you to help with your Mac, at a time that's convenient for you (including evenings and weekends)
- If the next available appointment at the Genius Bar is in a week and you don't want to wait that long
- If you have a heavy iMac or Mac tower (not an easily portable MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air)
- If you need help with non-Apple software (including Microsoft Office)
- If you are having a network or internet problem
- If you want help deciding which mail program is right for you
- If you are having trouble with sync (especially with an Android or BlackBerry mobile device)
- If you need advice on the pros and cons of Mac hardware or software solutions, including iPad and iPhone
Does this sound like what you need? If so, call us at (212) 353-3310 or email us at

For free Mac support: When to go to the Genius Bar
- If you want free Apple advice or help
- If you are willing to bring your Mac to the Apple Store and to experience possible appointment delays
- If the problem is a Mac hardware issue and the computer is still under AppleCare warranty
- If you think the problem can be fixed in 15 minutes or less
- If you want to know how to do something basic (reset your iPhone, log in to MobileMe, etc.)
- If you have questions about Apple software (iPhoto, Keynote, etc.) and products (iPhone, iPad, etc.)
- If your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air battery is less than a year old and doesn't hold a charge
